There are also places to stay. We offer a variety of motels, cabins, lodges and B& Bs. Also restaurants, cafes offering food and drink are here as well. We have several small grocery stores with gas available.
Most of these businesses have phones and web sites which we list for you by community, as well as Forest service offices and Gila Cliff Dwelling Visitor Center that can provide conditions and general information. Please remember that most of the businesses keep “county hours”. Out in the forest area, gas is available at only two places: Mimbres Store and Doc Campbell’s Post, both are closed late afternoon.
Silver City Silver City, county seat for Grant County, is an eclectic mix of the Old West and modern comforts, with reknown art galleries, great restaurants, lots of things to do and a casual atmosphere that makes even first-time visitors feel rights at home.
Fort Bayard Fort Bayard, site of an important frontier fort and home to the famed Buffalo Soldiers, is now home to Fort Bayard Medical Center. This state facility provides a variety of care specialties and promises to keep Fort Bayard a healthcare magnet for all of southwest New Mexico.
Lake Roberts Lake Roberts — which is both a manmade mountain lake and a charming lakeside community — is often referred to as the emerald of the Gila Forest. The lake and community are both a poplar destinations for fishermen, picnicers, visitors to the nearby Cliff Dwellings and motor tourists on the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway.
Santa Clara The small village of Santa Clara in central Grant County has a long history and shares deep ties to the mining economy of Grant County. Today, it is home to the new Fort Bayard Medical Center just noth of the historic Fort Bayard site.
